Changes and Cycles in Between Digital Art by Yuko Suzuki
Changes and Cycles in Between Digital Art
Changes and Cycles in Between Digital Art
This work explores the question, What is painting? by expressing the circulation of visual expressions. Inspired by transitions in Mondrian's paintings, it is based on a component diagram of painting, where shape moves between figurative and abstract, and between noise and linearity - an idea applied to color. The work evokes the shifting state of digital materiality, emphasizing that forms in between changes are the essence. By incorporating textures printed with a baren, it reflects the artist's identity as a printmaker in digital form.

Life Forms of Colors Digital Art by Yuko Suzuki

This work is an animation that visually depicts the process of pixels being broken down and reconstructed. The idea for the work began when the artist, a printmaker, wanted to create a landscape print and wondered if he could achieve color separation through coding. The pixels appear like cells, moving to form new shapes and colors, embodying the Japanese concepts of Kasane (layering) and Zurashi (shifting). They also symbolize the various transformations a person can undergo, expressing diversity and fluidity throughout the work, and reflecting the intersection of tradition and technology.

Curiosity Blocks Digital Art by Yuko Suzuki

Curiosity Blocks Digital Art
This work was created for an exhibition aimed at introducing children to the fun of coding. It is an animation using a technique called anamorphosis, where images are distorted in advance to appear correctly when reflected in a cylindrical mirror; essentially, a moving anamorphosis. Multiple animation parts are combined to represent the idea that new discoveries are born when curiosity connects and overlaps. The artist, who is also a printmaker, superimposed the relationship between a block and a print onto the relationship between the image on the display and the image in the mirror.
