Dongshang Japanese Restaurant
Dongshang is a Japanese restaurant and bar located in Beijing, composed of bamboo in many different forms and sizes. The traditional and symbolic material with strong connections to both Japanese and Chinese arts and crafts covers the entire walls and ceilings. The main dining is surrounded by bamboo strips fixed by brass nails on the walls, and a transparent canopy made of bamboo sticks is suspended over the tables to create a sense of intimacy. Dongshang invites guests on a story of traditional design motifs and crafting techniques, while evoking the feeling of dining within a bamboo grove.

The bar counter features wood louvers and glass pendant lights on the ceiling to define a spatial hierarchy for the most dominant part of the izakaya pub. Nyoi Nyokki evokes the traditional Japanese aesthetics of wabi-sabi through an assemblage of the aged wall, natural wood and steel.

Located in Beijing's old apartment, Hina is a Japanese-style bar consisting of a whisky bar and a karaoke room, clad with wooden gridded frames to tighten up the space and create an intimate environment. The soundproof karaoke room is also integrated with the frames continued from the bar counter.
