Neglected for the past decades, it is now evolving into a multi cultural melting pot. Dot Sofia aims to contribute to the rediscovery and evolution of this still hidden urban area. The building manifests unexpected different faces and scales from the possible viewpoints. The facade of rusted sheet metal documents the gradually disappearing historic materiality of the neighborhood, and the system of opening shutters interprets the the rhythm of the market life.

Prior to its reconstruction, this house from the 1920-ties was a romantic ruin surrounded by authentic and new-built fragments of ancient Augusta. The intervention continues the game of time offsets and brings the design to a contemporary interpretation of the avant-garde, at the time the house was built. A new volume of white concrete complements the structure and the program of the old house. The space of the new stair and its design bring light into the center of the entire composition. The new glossy white concrete slabs integrate and conceal all the contemporary technology of the house.

The house is located on a hill in the highest corner of a village amid an agricultural area in Northeast Bulgaria. The site of the project is distinguished both by its panoramic views and distant visibility. In order to strengthen them, a part of the program is located in the seemingly blind bastion-like volume and the living area is elevated high on it. This brings view completion up to 360 degree and privacy in the fully opened space above. The proportion and the materiality of the solid base give it the appearance of an infrastructural object that define the edge of the village.
