View Profile Consult Now Hire NowThe design concept is derived from the typical Chinese "courtyard house", to which two or more quadrangles of courtyard houses can be added. The public space of a quadrangle is added by a second or third quadrangle, and each quadrangle is decorated with different scenes so that the path to the living quarters is enriched with different rhythms and moods.

A 6-meter wall decorated with assorted plants is arranged by the side of the new entrance. The spiral staircase and the plant wall form the focal point of the entrance which is made by merging two stories of the original building. The lower part of the wall of the back yard is designed as a "white space" so that the focal point is extended to the back yard. The height of the wall was increased so that the space is made more private and detached from the neighboring building. Such a design creates the sensibility of a residence being surrounded by greenery.

In the bustling city of Taipei, a quiet section of Ren Ai Road is discovered between 2 side streets measuring 4 and 6 meters wide respectively. On this tranquil side street is a building designed with abundance of natural light and beauty. Echoing the hexagonal shape of a honeycomb structure, a layer of 25cm thick metal sinks between the interior and exterior. The eco-friendly skin provides a cooling shade, yet allows enough light to see through.

In physical characteristics of the site and the heritage of the indigenous people are the main inspirations for this project. The bend in the coastline defines the shape of the structure and the natural slope forms the three terrace level. The indigenous craft of a’tolan: building with rocks, establishes the theme of the design.

Desirably situated in proximity to Keelung River, and a small park directly in front, the property is enveloped on two sides by an L-shape sliding glass doors, with a balcony to enjoy the view of Keelung River in the distance or the greenery of the park down below. As the total floor plan resembles approximately a perfect square, the long wood cabinet transfigures this single space from one to three distinctive sections:the relaxation space wrapped by the sliding doors, the sleeping quarter of master and guest bedroom, and the culinary area of kitchen and wine cellar.Relaxation;Sleep;Culinary.

The beginning Based on the puritan Christian values, this building from the founding era of the institution is revitalized with a new heritage 60 years after. Use of subtle material: the purity and rawness of stones, the elegant and calligraphic lines of wood grain, and the 46 year-old original pebble wall. Minimalist, sober, and natural materials extend the space and time, signifying the start of a new heritage.
