Dusit Thani Laguna Golf Resort Hotel
Inspired by the undulating green landscape of the golf course, Dusit Thani Laguna, nestled in the renowned Laguna National Golf & Country Club in Singapore, is an urban golf resort development which features a union of a world-class golf club and a Dusit Thani-branded hotel. The awkward marriage of two buildings with largely different functions, is disguised by the unified form of the roof. The sleek, curvilinear roof, which makes the architecture of the building, displays a uniform seamless surface with no visible joints, complementing the surging gorgeous landscape of the golf course.

Doji Tower Interior Commercial and Office
Doji Tower, a mixed use interior project, features a pre-existing classical imprint. To create an integrated luxury experience that focuses from the outside to the inside, which is visually important, Mercurio Design Lab, a studio which does not focus heavily on a classical design philosophy, developed a new style language that fuses the classical and the contemporary. The blend resulted to an art deco sensibility when applied in the various sections and functionalities of the building. The combination brings forth a timeless innovation, one that outlives evolving colours and trends of time.
Doji Tower, a mixed use interior project, features a pre-existing classical imprint. Villa Mistral Residential
Named after the seasonal northwesterly wind that blows across the Mediterranean, Villa Mistral defies the monotone box type form by mimicking a boat. Its angular outward leaning structural elements and similarly angled glazed walls replicate an experience inside and outside a powerful vessel driving through the sea. Ocean inspired, the interiors feature a seaside theme that reflects the waterfront lifestyle gravitating around the area. There is total integration with building design, interior architecture, decoration, furnishings, and artworks.

Villas Alba Residential
Nestled in Sentosa, Singapore, a marina residential community offering tropical resort living, Alba which means sunrise in Italian are twin villas. Standing close to the sea, its semi-circular form calls to mind the image of a sun rising on the edge of the horizon. From the exterior to the interior, the villas were carefully crafted to maintain a cohesive concept and feel. Moreover, like sunrise, Villas Alba signal a start, having been designed at a time when few houses in Sentosa Cove showcased iconic architectural design.

The sculpture is inspired by one of the grand theories of science, the superstrings. It theorises that every particle that makes this universe is made of tiny vibrating strings, frantically oscillating in a ripple around its nucleus. Superstring is a symbology of interaction between science and art, celebrating the merger of these realms. It urges the onlooker to search for a dynamic balance between the two, suggesting a world where humanistic side is often traded for practical aspects of life. It is a call for individual to better themselves and a celebration of a culturally fuller mankind.

The form of Vento (‘wind’ in Italian) was inspired by the famous C42 cruiser which the designer Massimo Mercurio remembers from his childhood. With a seaside theme and lifestyle that was gravitating around the nearby One Degree 15 Marina, even the interiors of Vento resembles that of a high-end motorboat with wooden cladding, cabin-like beds and portholes for windows. There are no rooms, only cabins. Everything is wood, the walls and the ceiling. The inside is designed to be representative of a boat.

Hence, the curvaceous interlocking of two circular pavilions, each with an internal courtyard or atrium in the middle, emphasises the form and draws light down into the building. Even the interior decor is consistent with the architectural fluidity of the villa. The lighting fixtures, tables, couches, and tubs display the distinctive curvaceous feature harking to the eight form of the house.

Villa Otto's ‘flying saucer-like' design was conceived with a dynamic elevation. The unique outward thrusting walls and canopies gives the impression of a spacecraft either about to land or take off. The curvaceous interlocking of two circular pavilions forms the lucky number eight in Chinese culture. Despite the voluptuous external form, the internal spaces are largely straight. The vast living, dining and bedrooms emit an opulence to these rooms which seems to celebrate the privacy of personal space as a kind of luxury.

This four-unit complex is in the highly affluent Nassim Road precinct of Singapore, known for its high quality Good Class Bungalows. The site itself is triangulated and gently sloping with a long access road, limiting the amount of buildable land. In optimising the space within this plot of land, four ‘bungalows’ was incorporated into one complex, shifting the user experience into that of living in a landed house set amongst lush and luxuriant gardens and where grand established grand established tropical hardwood trees define the perimeter.

Amber Skye Medium Rise Residential
Amber Skye is a multi-residential development on the East Coast of Singapore, not far from the sea and the green recreational corridor which flanks the highway to Changi International Airport. Inspired by this, the design strategies taken was to give the complex the character of a seaside resort, conjuring up a sense of the endless rhythms of the sea and the ceaseless human activity which takes place in and around it. Common amenities such as large curvaceous swimming pool, gym, playgrounds and lush landscaping aim to create a relaxed retreat from the hectic Singapore city life.

Cultural Exchange Convention Centre
The Cultural Exchange is a large wedding hall, inspired by the famous Tiffany ring. The attractive site consists of a river and a range of low hills behind making up a series of conical formations. One of these hills has a hole through the middle and at night it looks like the moon, giving it the name, Moon Hill. The semi-circular wedding hall wraps around a large circular pond. The building, like a ring, lifts up to ‘support’ the diamond, which is the central hall, tapering away on either side so that the roof gradually drops down to meet the ground, forming a pathway around the lake.

There are glazed pearl white walls with a metallic tinge that replicate a hull. The architecture design was sculpted with the spirit of ocean which works perfectly for the waterfront resort home. Here, everything slants in a dynamic gesture to bestow movement and fluidity to hard, immovable matter. It is the wind, speed and the idea of going forward that reign in the house, a yacht that is cruising on land.

The driving idea was to develop a form which conjured up the image of a powerful boat driving through the water. Named after the seasonal strong, north-westerly wind that blows across the Mediterranean, Mistral is like a sleek Yacht. Painted in all white with a metallic tinge, Mistral has a powerful solidity to it. The structural elements are expressed both externally and internally.

Although the marketing of the building later suggested that its form had been inspired by the Calla lily, the shape actually owed more to the female human form - think Matisse's 'Blue Nude'. This results in the two intersecting elliptical fuses, true to MDL's philosophy, also hints at an underlying symbolism - perhaps symbol of infinity or number 8 which is propitious in Chinese culture. The highly sensual and curvilinear external form of the building complements the interiors, but also neutralise the building's scale disadvantage vis-a-vis its neighbours.
