Lullaby Children’s Library
Designers used the high-ceilinged space above the reading table to create forest trees that resemble a giant piece of installation art. Its standing posture corresponds with the vast sea of knowledge and symbolizes that children will grow and thrive step by step through learning. Using a pure white color tone as the theme of this space, it smartly brings out a colorful visual atmosphere and makes the reading atmosphere of the library more lively and vivid.

This project was the reception lobby of a congregation housing. Marble, solid wood grating and metal components were selected. Abundant linear accents were integrated to create visual rhythmic performance. They introduce light and maintain the visual cleanliness, and pull up visual elevation angles. Also, a large light decoration resembling the infinite symbol of “∞” with the ceiling holds the 2 pillars, providing legitimacy for the existence of these pillars. Finally, a marble collage was added surrounding the grounds, corresponding fluid loop patterns to make the design consistent.

For the exterior, the facade intimates the features of fish scales which possess a continuously regular structure. They are transferred into a serious of rhythmic and overlapping blocks that allow natural light seeping through the gaps. Together, the sunlight and shade create various expressions in a day. Inside, the linear wooden elements with illuminating concave are inspired by the stems and their sections of a plant, for their unique color schemes and textures. In the end, the idea was developed into an aesthetic language of lines weaving a dynamic visual sensation.

The design is inspired by oriental yard and uses new materials. With the parallel media of the glass structure, the design focuses on the transparency, light, and strength of the profile. The wooden fence follows sun rays. Iron parts showcase structure and craft. Hanging metal lamps and installation artworks attract visitors. In the washroom, embossed leather reflects shiny metal colors. The stone sink incorporates with mirror design. The whole project makes use of low-profile materials to present oriental contents and sculpt grand luxury to set the trend for innovative aesthetics.

Two natural elements take the main roles of the project. In the reception area, the overlapping and changeable features of clouds are re-interpreted. The wall-to-ceiling panels inspired by the clouds give the stone wall a cloud-wreathed effect. The contrast of colors and texture gives rise to their own secret rhythms. In the meeting area, the zigzag and extendable features of sound waves are applied, and bring out the innovation of the three-dimensional partitions. Gaps were deliberately left in the wooden walls to introduce slivers of light that forms a warm and serene space as well.

The project combines abstract concepts and modern materials. The grandness of the entrance image is a good demonstration. The route indoors goes through a water pond and a Chinese style gate goes to the oriental garden, a pure sensual enjoyment. Inside, one can see the decorative striations of the happiness symbol on the ceiling and the glass window. The reflection of light emits into the corridor, glass, metal, and plants as the harmonious factor to convert luxuriousness into the serene elegance, the interpretation of modern culture and fashion manner in oriental style.

By connecting regular hexagons in a repeated fashion, a seamless surface can be formed. Such graphic characteristics perfectly match the corporate spirit of the client in this project, which demonstrates congruity when dealing with external affairs and unity when consolidating corporate internal strength. Therefore, materials such as stainless steel, leather and mirrors were adopted and were consistently applied from the entrance to the meeting room, allowing similar images to penetrate the entire space, bringing out power and beauty from the designed pattern.
