Baia Night Club by Akitoshi Imafuku
Baia Night Club
Baia Night Club
Baia came into existence in Shibuya the center of Tokyo metropolitan as a cave suddenly appeared in the city. It consists of 5 floors; a basement, 3 stories, and a rooftop terrace, and the design concept of the entire floor is a cave within the city. The designers believed only a minimal design could visualize the fascinating and exotic atmosphere of a cave, and kept it minimal using emerald green lighting and mortar which they think suited for this modern cave. The lighting plan of fascinating emerald green lights added glamor to the space and helped visualize the design concept.

The Soleil Building Office
This is the office building for the solar power company based in Osaka. They wish to design the dynamic and spiritual worldview lurking deep in the mountains by recreating huge rocks which often seen deep in Japanese mountains in the city. Chiseled with artificial rocks and vertical wooden lattices, the building facade manifests the design concept "Fusion of Nature and Art." The artificial rock embedding facade of the ground floor to the 2nd floor continued to the entrance and the artificial rock merges with a sculpture on a theme of love. Art is layered throughout the whole building.

BE SIDE CAFE AND BEAUTY
For new challenge of Funabashiya which is with a long history since 1805 as arrowroot mochi store, the designers thought it is important to return to their own roots and cherish their long history, so, they adopted the iconic wisteria arbor of their flagship store to the design of the whole entrance. Not only this dynamic design of the entrance stands out in the quiet residence area in Aoyama and caught people, but it also functions as outside seating for their customers.

TOKI to TOKI Japanese Traditional Hotel by Akitoshi Imafuku

TOKI to TOKI Japanese Traditional Hotel
TOKI to TOKI in Chinese characters means “season and time” and the designers wish to design a place to simply enjoy changes of the season while time passing slowly. At the lobby, the stools were placed at relatively wide spaces in between to cherish personal space while enjoying the food and communication. The geometrical shaped tatami floor and the pattern by lights are inspired by the river and a willow tree in front of this hotel, and create magical but relaxing atmosphere. At the bar space, they designed the magnificent organic-shaped sofa with textile designer Jotaro SAITO.

The Public Stand Roppongi Bar by Akitoshi Imafuku
The Public Stand Roppongi Bar
The Public Stand Roppongi Bar
This is a standing bar where young people come for encounters. The underground location makes you feel like you are going into secret club, and the colored lighting throughout the space pumps up your heartbeat more with the graffiti. As the purpose of the bar is to connect people, we tried to design organic, circular shapes. The big standing table at the end of the bar is ameba-like shape, and the shape helps customers to get closer with other people without making them feel uncomfortable.

Sumihei Kinean Traditional Japanese Hotel
This was the extension work for a ryokan (Japanese hotel) established 150 years ago in Kyoto, and they have built 3 new buildings; lobby building with a lounge and the family hot spring, north building and south building with 2 guest rooms in each building. Most of the inspiration comes from the great nature surrounding SUMIHEI. As the name “Kinean” means sounds of the seasons, we wanted guests to be able to enjoy the sounds of nature while their stay at SUMIHEI Kinean.

cave bar Hotel Facility For Guests
This bar is located in the site of a ryokan (Japanese hotel) and it is for the guests who are staying. They only designed to highlight the beauty of nature and turned the cave into an unforgettable bar. The cave was left untouched after the former owner gave up making a tunnel and nobody saw the beauty hidden in the cave. They were inspired by stalactite cave. How nature creates stalactites, and how stalactites makes a plain cave mysteriously beautiful. With the simple design and the original icicle-like glass lights, supermaniac wish their design to be stalactites for the cave.
