View Profile Consult Now Hire NowThe wood vertical elements of the custom shelving display, follow a parametric variable curve that is formed by designing a curved visual field for the visitor that relates to the product display as it unfolds. Therefore, the specific method of contextualising the elements targets the whole perception of the visitor, who can rapidly see all the products on display. To this end, the objective is to create a functionally unified space, that does not interrupt the overall spatial continuity between the outer, public space of the shopping area and the private workspace of the pharmacists.

Earthwood integrates sustainable construction technology with traditional building design methods. The architectural composition comprises four main principles of sustainability, i.e. the Fertile Ground, the Green Canopy, the Earth Wall and the Wood House. The use of renewable energy sources and natural recyclable materials including structural cross laminated timber and stabilized rammed earth, creates a unique architectural experience by reducing the ecological footprint as well as ensuring an enduring positive impact on communities and on the environment.

Earthwood is located in Salamis; an island in the Saronic Gulf in Greece, close to Piraeus Port to the west of Athens. The main challenge of the project is to think about an architectural module that can be constructed in a limited timetable, i.e. 2-4 days; that is composed of natural and recyclable materials; that is self-sufficient through renewable energy sources and sound water management, while simultaneously improving living conditions, minimizing its ecological footprint and maximizing its positive impact on the environment.
