The Ring House & Atelier by Marwan Zgheib
The Ring House & Atelier
The Ring House & Atelier
The proposed Ring House consists of a cylindrical volume embracing a rectangular one. The cylinder acts as a protective closed wall with a single narrow opening serving as the entrance, while the inside rectangle accommodates fluidly all the house functions necessary for the everyday life of the artist: a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, a kitchen and an atelier. The interior space interacts smoothly with the serene outdoor atrium, a large terrace garden with one symbolic tree and a circular water feature.

Golden West Bay Office tower by Marwan Zgheib
Golden West Bay Office tower
Golden West Bay Office tower
The Golden West Bay concept exemplifies a pure geometrical scenario tailored by a clear physical language. The diagonal cut of one pure rectangle and the sliding of the parts resulted in a striking, modern three-dimensional image. The two sliding parts challenge gravity and embrace one another through a joint. This innovative design approach creates an eye-catching structure that stands out from the rest. By forming this elegant and monumental silhouette, the building is seen to celebrate the strength of monolithic symmetrical sculptures which in turn symbolize power.

ALDAR Headquarters Office headquarters by Marwan Zgheib

ALDAR Headquarters Office headquarters
The Aldar Headquarters designed by MZ Architects has a distinctive and innovative design: a semispherical building comprising two circular convex shaped facades linked by a narrow band of indented glazing. This iconic fully glazed structure is completely circular in elevation and curved in all other directions. The ideas of simplicity, purity and learning from nature, were the main principles of the concept, coupled with the reliance on one of the oldest rules of architecture: that of proportion. The result is an extremely pure geometrical but daring design.

K Galleria Lifestyle Center by Marwan Zgheib
K Galleria Lifestyle Center
K Galleria Lifestyle Center
The architecture and vision of K Galleria are inspired by the infamous ancient Khans, the equivalent of the public marketplace in the Middle East during the Ottoman era. As both client and architect wanted to avoid creating yet another clone of the traditional shopping mall, capturing the vernacular and social essence of the traditional Khans was a primary concern in the design, transcending the mere commercial and retail function, and rather creating a leisure and socialization hub offering a robust menu of lifestyle choices.

Palm Towers Office towers by Marwan Zgheib

Palm Towers Office towers
The Palm Towers' design intents to represent the trunk of a palm tree, emerging from the ground and rising up to 245.7m in the sky, creating a high-tech architectural embodiment of the cherished tree, symbol of survival in the dead-heat desert of the Arab countries. A simple image, rooted in the collective memory of the people, is transcended into one of the highest architectural landmarks of Doha's skyline. The first of its kind in Qatar, this design is considered a fine art in architectural and engineering fields.

W Doha Hotel & Residences
W Doha Hotel & Residences is located in the heart of Doha, with lifestyle driven design & high-energy interiors. The client’ and W brand’s wish was to build a hotel distinctively inspired by the city of Doha with strong cutting-edge design. The proposed design was simple yet modern & contemporary: an innovative & dramatically sculpted volume efficient in all ways. Described as ‘a modern sanctuary above the city’, the hotel is extroverted in its strong forms, yet introverted in the sense that the exterior gives little away about what is happening inside.

The Wall Stadium Football stadium by Marwan Zgheib
The Wall Stadium Football stadium
The Wall Stadium Football stadium
The Wall Stadium is a one of a kind football stadium emerging from a green shallow dune in the middle of the desert. Its main stand sits upright, the majority of its height emerging from the underground pitch. This slanted colossal structure dominates on the surrounding areas by its solid form and height, and is the reason why ‘The Wall’ has gained the nickname ‘The Laptop’, as it looks like an open laptop when observed from above.

Park Inn - Riyadh Hotel by Marwan Zgheib
Park Inn - Riyadh Hotel
Park Inn - Riyadh Hotel
The idea behind the Riyadh Park Inn Hotel originated from the concept of blocks. The proposed hotel lies as a large dynamic element radiating light from the elongated slim slits of its façade and breaking up to expose its central spine, the atrium, defining the entrance and the common spaces of the hotel. The design investigates the relationship between mass and void, creating a sense of privacy where little exposure of the hotel’s internal private activities are reflected to the outside. The building’s reading is one very much related to the local architectural language of mass and stone.

The Rock Stadium Sports stadium
Set in the Al Ain desert landscape, the Rock Stadium celebrates the game it hosts as much as it celebrates the site in which it lays. Recognizing the powerful language of its surrounding and intelligently approaching the issue of scale and the intermittent use of the stadium architecture, the project sinks its 200,000sqm structure into the ground and turns the rocky mountain of Jebel Hafeet into one of its main features, blurring the boundaries of the built and the natural, and merging architecture and landscape.

Meditation House House & Prayer Room
Meditation House House & Prayer Room
The Meditation House is a place of contemplation and retreat blending into its natural rocky surrounding. Like a giant fallen rock nestled on the edge of the hill, the house and its adjacent prayer hall – Musalla – create a dialogue with both nature and God, reflecting the owner’s sensitivity towards the environment and his relationship with God. Connecting between earthly and spiritual realms, the House is meant to provide a retreat at one with nature and engendering a distinctive feeling of peace, harmony and humbleness.

West Bay Lagoon Plaza Residential Towers by Marwan Zgheib
West Bay Lagoon Plaza Residential Towers
West Bay Lagoon Plaza Residential Towers
The West Bay Lagoon Plaza twin towers, also commonly known as the Zig-Zag towers or the 'dancing towers' due to their wave-like character, are the highest and largest residential zig-zag twin towers in the world. Unique in design and location, the outstanding complex proposes two identical towers with zig-zag leaning elevations contrasting with the familiar vertical towers. This structure is obtained through a rethinking of the rules, manipulating basic forms in an unconventional way to model buildings that are functional, yet visually striking.

Doha Private Villas Villas
MZ Architects was appointed by a private Qatari client to design a family residential compound in Doha, Qatar. The proposed conceptual volume reflected the client's character, lifestyle and family needs: elegant, modest yet efficient structures encompassing all requested functions and services in a simple and poetic spirit. The series of "sliding" walls engendered private spaces, each of them creating a certain continuity between the interior function and the exterior, thus the diversity of the "microspaces" and their usage.

Qatar Navigation Tower Commercial offices building
The Qatar Navigation Tower exemplifies a sensibility that melds architecture and sculpture in an exuberant building. Providing a striking modern image, the simple slick volume, with sliced edges, contours an elegant silhouette and stands monumentally, recalling the glory of monolithic sculptures. Calibrated to the actual changing sun angles, the horizontal shades at the south and north elevations act like bridges between the vast east and west elevations mimicking the company international maritime role between the east and west of the globe.

Al Dana Office tower
The Al Dana Tower is a ground-breaking structure with a breathtaking spherical conference room, in the shape of a Gulf Pearl, anchored at only two points and suspended at the centre of the building on the 20th floor. Resembling a Gulf Pearl (‘Dana’ in Arabic), it is this conference room that gives the Tower its name. The marriage of form in this tower depicts its design concept, using pure geometrical forms.

Park Inn - Jeddah Hotel
The Park Inn Jeddah Hotel project is an interplay of art and architecture. Its making investigates the overlap of both fields and looks for what each has to offer in developing the final product. By looking at the building as an object of art and studying the way the light records itself onto it and animates it, MZ Architects were able to transcend the conventional building typology to achieve a product that is closer to a painting than a sculpture.

Being one of the first cities to introduce higher education in Nigeria, Ibadan has launched the idea of a technical university stretching over a million sqm of land. The master plan’s circular concept aims to create a dynamic and interactive space for students and staff. The administration building which also includes the university library offers a design inspired by red brick architecture, with suspended ceilings: Brick volumes pop out inside two suspended concrete slabs, creating shaded gathering areas between the two functions.

Our Lady of the Rosary - Hrajel Church by Marwan Zgheib
Our Lady of the Rosary - Hrajel Church
Our Lady of the Rosary - Hrajel Church
The Our Lady of the Rosary - Hrajel Church is a powerfully sculptural, symbolic representation of ascent and resurrection amidst the rocky mountainous landscape. The architecture uses simple yet grand means to evoke the desired religious effect. The austere building volume appears as a stairway towards heaven, a recurring biblical metaphor symbolizing spiritual ascent. This sloping façade which also serves as the roof of the structure is based around a triangular geometry as a representation of the Holy Trinity, one of the cornerstones of Catholic belief.

Located on a 3 million-sqm plot in the heart of the desert, between the historic cities of Doha and Al Khor the Valley City - Qatar is envisioned as a modern city designed to attract middle-income Qatari citizens as well as the growing population of expatriates and their families, in an environment where work, leisure and residence are strongly bound. The city serves both a need for a growing demand and as an example of innovative strategies in sustainable planning, architecture and low impact design in the fragile desert environment in which it lays.
