Avenue A Residence Single Family Residential by Yu-Ngok Lo

Avenue A Residence Single Family Residential
For a new single family residence in a Southern California beach town, we propose a design that beams modernity, simplicity, and elegance. Our proposal is not only efficient and comfortable but also cleanly expresses a unique aesthetic quality. Maximizing the flood of bright natural sunlight was a primary element and coupling this spectrum with a simple color scheme is meant to enhance the natural feel of the overall project. The exposed structural elements further reinforces the statement of simplicity in the design.

Jinya Houston Ramen Bar
For the new Jinya Ramen franchise in Houston, Texas we propose a design that combines modernity, traditionalism and elegance. Our proposal is not only efficient and comfortable but cleanly expresses the brand and the image of the Japanese noodle chain. Showcasing craftsmanship was a primary element of this process and coupling this spectrum with a warm color scheme is meant to express a rustic and traditional atmosphere. In lieu of the bland choice of drywall, traditional Japanese stucco walls and rustic wood finishes create a more authentic dining experience.

The Lost Wall Historic Preservation
Creating a formal intrusion to the historically important site, the project is not a revival of what’s been demolished but a reiteration of the historic preservation effort. The contrast between the architectural intervention and the surrounding is an allegory of modern China and its destructive treatment of Beijing’s historic buildings

Grill Barbeque Restaurant by Yu-Ngok Lo

Grill Barbeque Restaurant
The project turned an existing rundown motorcycle repair shop located in the northern part of Macau into a brand new artisan Barbeque Bistro. The biggest challenge of the project is to satisfy the client’s aggressive programmatic need in such a small space with a very tight budge. The design progress began with figuring a way to fit 40 seats in the 44 m2 dining area. A total construction budget of HK$320,000 was set at the beginning of the project. Our solution was to maintain the industrial aspect of the space by minimally finished the walls and ceiling with a “raw and unfinished” texture.

Cheung's Residence Residence
The residence is designed with simplicity, openness and natural light in mind. The footprint of the building shall reflect the constraint of the existing site and the formal expression shall be clean and simple. An atrium and balcony are located on the north side of the building illuminating the entrance and the dining area. Sliding windows are provided at the south end of the building where the living room and kitchen are to maximize natural lights and provide spatial flexibility. Skylights are proposed throughout the building to further reinforce the design ideas.

The project is designing a mix-use temporary pavilion at Trafalgar, London for various functions and events. The proposed structure emphasizes the notion of "temporariness" by using recycling shipping containers as the primary construction material. Its metallic nature is meant to establish a contrasting relationship with the existing building reinforcing the design concepts. Also, the formal expression of the building is organzied and arranged in a random fashion creating a temporary landmark on site to attract visual interaction during the building's short life.
