Eighteen Art Installation
Elle Decor India approached designers to design an art installation to celebrate their 18th anniversary in India. The art installation was put up at India design week expo and witnessed by visitors across the country. This interactive installation conveys significance of being eighteen years old and relates it to a common man. Eighteen is not just a number but a realisation to know and feel what is mirage and the real. Mirror alphabets in the spelling of eighteen were composed to form a cube that gives multiple dimensions and insights to viewer. Witnessing kaleidoscope of reflections is fun.

Designers have taken local context and have used recycled Paper Tubes that are used to roll the fabric. Creating an experience through fusion of sustainable and Natural Materials with organic pattern is the key factor in this design. Designers have taken advantage of natural breeze through to evolve the concept of creating interactive ceiling. Waves formed by the pattern of paper tubes oscillate with the wind that creates drama and interaction keeps guests engaged.

While you cheer Manchester, you would be happy to find Archie comics in the book shelf. Designers have used plenty of wood that one can smell. Backdrop of speaker wall and the curve mirrors in washrooms is what one has to experience personally. A table hanging from the wall to “make you feel in air” on special occasions is amazing to see how bold and far an designer can go. It is combination of retro and modern feel.

Kopp in local Goan language means a glass of a drink. Whirlpool formed by stirring a drink in a glass is visualised as a concept for this project. It portrays the design philosophy of repetition of a module generating patterns.Keeping central column as the base and wrapping ceiling around it is conceived by using a module of PVC drainage pipes and Y bends. Further the curve in horizontal as well as vertical plane is enhanced using curved panels of plywood cladded with veneer. Use of Drainage pipes continue on the outdoors with bright colours to establish continuity from indoors to outdoors.

This Indian Restaurant is a combination of traditional and contemporary elements. The designer has used indigenous and local material keeping in mind the local context of highway side Indian Dhaba. Cane sticks wrap the walls extending up to ceiling and central ceiling is highlighted with hanging earthen pots. The designer has used textures of natural elements to create lighting patterns. Odd shape of the premises is treated with use of mirrors. It gives international look to otherwise a normal Indian restaurant and encourages the expacts to step in and experience the Indian culture

It is a combination of retro elements with a contemporary blend. Antique display with a library of old comic books and a black board gives it a nostalgic touch. Palette of Pastel colours and eclectic furniture adds freshness to the premises. Designers have achieved natural light and ventilation by the composition of antique windows on the exterior wall and different moods are created by natural light penitrating through stained glasses.

It plays with an earthy look with contemporary styling while a dash of bold colors act as a dressing. Natural Elements like wood, stones, plants and the engaging play of light and shadow enliven the Divine experience while you flow from one section to another. It portrays the Oriental philosophy of The Absolute, Timeless Communication and The Real World combined together quite ingeniously offering a functional yet emotional and visual delight as well.

Located as it is amidst the rice farms all around, the inspiration for this home, very naturally came from the surrounding paddy fields. The entire house and its landscaping were designed following the principal of Less is More. And this also reflects the lifestyle and preference of the client. Also, the topography of the land became a major driving force on how the design evolved. Simple, straight and elegant spaces have been created along horizontal planes with the highlight on split levels. The open plan of the house allows plenty of spaces that are visually connected to each other.
