While respect is given to the aesthetic basis of order and symmetry of the Huizhou-style architecture, the Horse Head Shaped wall as well as Four Treasures of the Chinese Study (writing brush, ink stick, ink slab and paper) with local cultural characteristics are adopted as the design elements to express the design theme of “Impression on Huizhou”.

The exterior design employs the Art Deco style typical of classical architectures in the Bund. And the interiors further embodied this style with the lavish ornamentation—the bold geometric shapes that incorporate cultural elements of old Shanghai like magnolias, the decorative pilasters with flowing lines, the metallic screens covered by simple and symmetric patterns—which on the whole emanates an old-fashioned vibe taking you a century back to the city in its twenties and thirties.
